The in-game handicap system has been a bone of contention for most players I think. It is completely ridiculous and, because of that, Les and I have decided to do something.
From next week the main event will be a Scratch event, meaning that when I input the tournament details I will not be 'checking' the handicap box.
There will still be a handicap event but I will be keeping scores manually. Players' in-game handicap figures will not be used - instead we will be adjusting them to half their in-game value. For example, take someone whose in-game handicap shows as +9.0. Divide that figure by 2 and the answer is 4.5. That is then rounded up to 5 and that will be the handicap used. Another example would be an in-game handicap of +8.8. Divide that figure by 2 and you get 4.4. That is then rounded down to 4 which would be the handicap used.
Every player's adjusted handicap will be calculated at the beginning of the event - and will be the figure used for the whole of that week's event, it will not change during the tourney.
I will be adding a new column to the leaderboard to show every player's adjusted handicap.
We hope this will even things up a bit, and we will monitor how it pans out, so please bear with us. We are just trying to give everyone a better chance.
If anyone has any thoughts or suggestions do please let us know!

I am assuming then you will calculating the adjusted handicap against the final score ? - the only real advantage I see out of this is the fact that you can play together without the T bother. By dividing TGC handicap in 1/2 does not change the fact that TGC handicap system is a mess to figure out it just lowers the posted scores. There is nothing wrong with wanting to do this other than a lot of work, the way you currently do it the handicap score is calculated for you, the real advantage here is you can play multi player more than two players and you are not bothered by the WHO IS ON THE TEE ISSUE.

Well Les, that sounds like good news. I think that will be a boost in getting players back i hope. I had to pull back too because the in-game handicap was just killing off any enjoyement really. I went back to make an aggregate of my rounds in TOG and adding them all up resulted in me having a real time hcp of 1! while the game gave me +12 . Ofcourse i knew (like everybody else i'm sure) i was nowhere near a +12 hcp, meaning playing rounds in de low sixties all the time, but i kept plugging away. But it wears you down like having a ball & chain around yer ankles! So i hope the new set up will help straighten things out. I still hope the set ups will be realistic and not 'fast & furious' all the time. And even though you guys can not mix up the tees per round (not your fault) i hope different tee's will be used. Anyway, we'll see how it goes...

Hi Goats, we all know TGC Handicap system seems a bit flawed and difficult to understand, so we have decided to create a simple handicap system for our society. To get to a handicap we have taken the 20 last scores from your score history and averaged your scores per round. We then have assumed a CSS (course standard scratch) of 70 (this might need adjusting in the future but seems fine at minute) and based handicaps around the difference. Handicaps are then rounded up or down to nearest number for example a 1.5 handicap will have you playing off 2, and a 1.4 handicap will have you playing off 1. On the handicap list which we will put up later today you will see some with just a number and some with a - in front. The ones with just a number are + handicaps and the ones with a - are minus handicaps for example 3 handicap shoots 66 he then adds 3 so nett score is 69, however a -3 handicap shooting a 66 (bandit) takes away 3 so it becomes a 63 and of course this will reflect on his future handicap. We feel the +handicaps should be capped at +5 maximum but reserve the right to review that in future if need be. We also decided to adjust handicaps weekly so your handicap remains the same until the completion of the weeks tours. We will notify you of your handicap for the new week via the Handicap thread in forum. From now on we will only use your scores in the society events to adjust handicaps for this society. The list is now posted here theoldgoats.proboards.com/thread/111/members-handicaps This is a list of current active players I will add to it as players either join or restart playing again.
